United Biscuits and Allied Bakeries have taken two top-spots in The Grocer’s Supplier of The Year competition for the Bakery category.

British Baker’s sister publication gathered feedback from leading supermarkets, including the big four, as well as symbol groups, discounters and wholesalers about the performance of suppliers.

United Biscuits won the Best Branded Supplier, with buyers praising the company’s “collaborative working” and specific research.

Allied Bakeries took gold for Best Own-label Supplier, praised for its supply chain and response to customer needs. The company recently took a blow when Tesco delisted its Kingsmill sliced bread, but it also supplies own-label lines to businesses.

The bakery firms will now be in the running for the publication’s Grocer Gold Award for overall Branded or Own-label supplier of the year, judges by a panel of trading and commercial directors. The awards will be held on 9 June in London’s Guildhall.
