The Hummingbird Bakery said it hopes to resolve a trademark issue with a London chain called ‘Hummingbird Café’ “as amicably as possible”.
As well as having a similar name, both chains also use the hummingbird in flight on their logo, and offer an artisan experience.
The renowned Hummingbird Bakery is an American-style bakery founded in 2004. It opened its first branch on Portobello Road in Notting Hill in 2004 and has since launched a further six branches across London in South Kensington, Soho, Spitalfields, Islington and Richmond.
Franchise
It also has a franchise presence in the Middle East, with two branches in Dubai and further launches planned.
The Hummingbird Café, meanwhile, is based in Shepherd’s Bush, London and consists of a café and a recently opened deli nearby. A local artisan Mexican tacos bar, Habanera, is also owned by the same company.
Hummingbird Café said it was famous (in Shepherd’s Bush at least) for high-quality brunch, coffee and cakes.
A spokeswoman for Hummingbird Bakery commented: “We are aware of this and our trademark attorney is on the case. We hope to resolve this as amicably as possible.”
