Foodservice supplier Bidvest 3663 has created an online tool to help bakery customers choose the right products.

The From the Bakery guide is an interactive tool, created following company research into customers’ buying habits. It revealed that bakery items can be confusing to purchase as the products span all eating occasions across the day parts as well as differing on cooking and preparation requirements.

The guide can be found on the Bidvest 3663 website, with detailed information on more than 375 products including more than 30 pastry products such as Bridor chocolate twist. It recommends upselling these with coffee.

Each listing features an image and icons to explain the cooking method, whether the product is Craft Guild of Chefs endorsed and whether it meets a special dietary need such as gluten-free.

There are also dedicated gluten-free pages to help bakers meet the increasing demand for these products, particularly in light of the new Food Information Regulations coming in this December.

Gemma Young, product marketing manager at Bidvest 3663, said: “Bakery is a key category for any foodservice provider as it touches all eating occasions throughout the day. We pride ourselves on our vast range, offering a number of options to suit different customer needs and price points.

“The brochure includes a ‘something special’ section for each bakery sub-category, highlighting products that will help customers offer something different on their menus. There are also top tips and recipe ideas throughout the brochure to help inspire our customers, along with market stats to help them make informed product choices.”
