A bakery masterclass has been held with celebrity cake-maker Mich Turner to mark the search to find the Scottish Baker of the Year 2014.
Held at Stephens Bakery, Dumfermline, owned by last year’s winner Andre Sarafilovic, singer Michelle McManus and former professional footballer Jim Leishman were shown by Turner and Sarafilovic how to make an array of baked goods.
Now in its third year, the competition, founded by trade association Scottish Bakers, sees customers across Scotland vote for their favourite local baker and rate their products.
Categories include: Morning roll, Scone, Individual Cake, Savoury, Bread, and Biscuit. Each is scored on appearance, freshness, taste and value for money.
Last year, 15,000 votes were registered, with 200 bakers recognised.
Alan Clarke, chief executive, said: “We are delighted to launch our third nationwide search for the Scottish Baker of the Year in 2014, celebrating the achievements of the 15,000 people who work in our industry.
Turner, who will present the awards in May, added: “I am delighted to once again be involved in this event. As a professional cake-designer, I have been really impressed by the quality and creativity Scottish bakers are demonstrating and I look forward to being surprised and delighted again this year.”
