Lola’s Cupcakes has told British Baker it plans to expand oversees as it looks at potential opportunities for international franchising.
The news comes as the London-based cupcake bakery business opened its fifth cupcake outlet in Brent Cross Shopping Centre last Friday.
A company spokesperson also told British Baker that Lola’s hoped to open between three and five further outlets in the south east in the next 12 months.
Lola’s Brent Cross site includes its biggest cupcake counter to date, which will serve bakery goods, fresh fruit salads, homemade quiches and newly introduced cupcake milkshakes, as well as a seating area tailored for more than 50 customers.
The company has taken on 12 new members of staff as a result of the Brent Cross store opening, and three management employees from existing outlets have been transferred to the new site.
Lola’s current locations include a stand-alone store on Lansdowne Row in London’s Mayfair, concession stands in Selfridges’ Foodhall and an independent Topshop outlet, both in Oxford Circus, as well as a patisserie counter in Harrods on Brompton Road.
The company was set up in 2007 by co-founders Victoria Jossel and Romy Lewis, and is now under the control of Mario and Asher Budwig, who took over the running of the business in December 2011.
