A Wolverhampton bakery, BF Done & Son, shut its shop until further notice - just before the busy Christmas period.

The business, which was a finalist in British Baker’s Baking Industry Awards 2012, told a customer on Facebook that the closure of its Griffiths Drive shop was due to ‘staff illness’.

According to local paper, the Express & Star, the associated Done’s Craft Bakers wholesalers near Penkridge is still operating.

A spokeswoman for the company told the paper: "The shop in Wednesfield will be closed until further notice. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage."

The firm has operated within the Done family for 147 years, and has served customers from Wednesfield and Ashmore Park, Wolverhampton since 1867.

The bakers were involved in fundraising for the Make a Wish foundation as part of Craft Bakers’ week.
