A keen baker has made a huge Land Rover cake weighing 600kg to celebrate the production of Jaguar Land Rover’s two millionth Defender.
Lara Clarke of Tasty Cakes in Brownhills in the Black Country spent 150 hours baking the cake, which contains 50kg butter and 32 sponge cakes. It has a base of plyboard, piping and greaseproof paper before the cake layers and is half the size of a real Land Rover. It had to be placed into position at the JLR site in Solihull by a forklift truck.
Clarke told British Baker: “I did it all myself apart from a bit of fondant and my sister-in-law whipped up the buttercream.”
She has owned the business for around four years and has been making large cakes for about two-and-a-half, while also having a full-time job in customer service.
Clarke won gold at the Cake International Competition in Birmingham two years ago with a life-sized Johnny Depp cake in his Pirates of the Caribbean character Jack Sparrow. A life-size Jennifer Lawrence of The Hunger Games followed and she has received cake commissions since.
