Wrexham-based Village Bakery has received a double boost from winning an award and an extended contract with supermarket chain The Co-operative.
As reported in Wales Online, Village Bakery was crowned best community supplier by The Co-operative at an awards ceremony in Manchester.
It also saw its contract with the supermarket rise from supplying 63 to 116 stores across Wales.
Managing director Robin Jones said: “We’ve been dealing with the Co-op for many, many years now and we are the local baker while they are the local community retailer so it’s always been a good fit for both of us.”
He added: “We’re very proud our products have won numerous awards, most recently our crumpets won a Great Taste Award and also a Grocer magazine Gold Award. The secret of our success is making volume products whilst staying true to our craft baking skills and traditions.”
The news comes on top of the bakery’s recent announcement of plans to sell their sourdough crumpets in Japan.
