High street coffee chains Costa Coffee and Pret A Manger both plan to open new outlets in Bath city centre.
Pret has a store on the corner of Stall Street, and plans to open a second in the former Lavazza store in Southgate Shopping Centre in August.
Costa has an outlet on Stall Street, as well as one in Debenhams and another in the Kingsmead Leisure Complex on James Street West. It has secured a new site on Southgate Street and has applied for a second in Brunel Square, on the site currently occupied by independent coffee shop Jika Jika.
Pret will be opening its first motorway service shop, as part of a trial partnership with Welcome Break.
Costa has been named the Favourite High Street Coffee Shop at the 2016 Good Housekeeping Food Awards. The category was introduced in 2015 and Costa has won the award for two years in a row.
