Premium chocolatier House of Dorchester has been acquired by confectioner Charbonnel et Walker.
The former was owned by private-equity firms Maven Capital Partners and Albion Ventures alongside the chocolatier’s former management team since 2002. According to British Baker’s sister title The Grocer, the private equity firms exited their investment in late July and Charbonnel et Walker has already appointed new management.
House of Dorchester makes bespoke chocolates for hotels, restaurants and shops, and counts Tesco and Waitrose as two of its biggest customers.
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed, but Albion’s portfolio shows that the firm has marked down the value of its Dorchester investment by 45% from June 2012 to a year later.
