Ingredients supplier Middledale Foods is targeting 70% growth over the next three years as it expands its business.
Middledale, which distributes dairy, egg, plant-based and functional ingredients to customers including Finsbury Food Group and Jones Village Bakery, is investing across its operations, people and infrastructure. The business said this would enable it to expand capacity, strengthen capability and support increasing demand from food manufacturers across the UK.
The plans follow the business, which is based in Chirk, North Wales, achieving record turnover of £31.2m in its latest financial year. Middledale has more than doubled turnover over the past three years while increasing EBITDA by 133%.
Reinvesting £600k of profits over the next three years, Middledale is targeting a turnover of £52m in its 2028 financial year.
It will also invest in innovation by researching new ingredients and identifying new applications for existing products, while roles will be created in the customer service, marketing, sales, and business development teams to drive growth across new sectors and market opportunities.
Continued investment will also be made in quality management systems, customer service and CRM platforms, and the implementation of a new integrated stock management, pricing and contract management platform.
“The investment reflects not only our confidence in the future, but also our commitment to growing in the right way,” stated the business. “At Middledale Foods, growth is not simply about becoming bigger. It is about improving the service, support, and solutions we provide to customers and manufacturing partners.”

Middledale was founded by Nigel Salsbury in 1996 as a supplier of bulk, short shelf-life dairy ingredients and has expanded over 30 years to offer egg, plant-based and functional ingredients. Products supplied to bakery customers include creams, butters, a wide range of sweetened condensed milk, cultured products, egg products, egg replacers and protein enrichment ingredients.
“Reaching our 30th anniversary is a milestone we’re incredibly proud of, but our focus is firmly on what comes next,” said Middledale managing director Sarah Summers. “Every stage of our growth has been guided by a commitment to building a stronger business that continues to deliver for our customers and manufacturing partners.”
“Through continued investment in people, systems, expertise and innovation, we’re broadening our specialist ingredients offering and strengthening the capabilities that enable us to deliver innovative, partnership-led ingredient solutions and support our customers for many years to come.”
