A baker at Adams Cakes has recreated the cover of The Beatles’ Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album to mark the record’s 50th anniversary.
Adam Cox, head baker at the London-based business, created the Victoria sponge cake, which includes more than 40 individual handmade characters.
The creation, which took over 150 hours to make, was produced with 10kg of flour, sugar and icing, and features Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison, and Ringo Starr along with other famous faces from the original artwork, designed by Peter Blake and Jann Haworth.
“Creating this cake was a challenge - researching, handcrafting, dressing and animating each of the 40+ famous faces was the most time-consuming task,” said Cox.
“I’ve got a bit of a reputation for creating music-themed cakes and wanted to make the anniversary of this album a proper occasion. The album is regularly on repeat in the kitchen so it was a no-brainer to celebrate it in the only way I know how to.”
The self-taught baker, who set up his business in 2013, has been crafting for the past 10 years and has previously modelled music-themed cakes on Oasis, Morrissey, Jeff Buckley and Suede.
