Father’s Day Brownies & Beer

From cookies and cakes with their faces on to indulgently large pies and pastries, dads across the nation are set to get treated with bakery this Father’s Day.

Bakers have innovated with the old man in mind, rolling out recipes to appeal to their tastes – both sweet and savoury – and sometimes bundling them up with beer or, in one case, having ale as an ingredient.

Check out the line-up of limited-edition bakery gifts created for the special occasion this Sunday (15 June):

Father’s Day Football Cake

Father’s Day Football Cake, Asda

The retailer has scored an official licensing agreement with the Premier League to use top tier football team logos on its in-store printed Big Day Cakes (the list of teams isn’t complete, mind, but Asda says it’s adding to them). What’s more, the cakes can be further personalised with a photo of dad for a Father’s Day gift to share with the whole family.

Over 300 Asda stores nationwide offer the photo cake service, whereby customers simply upload a photo at a kiosk located in the celebration cake aisle, choose a frame and message, pick a cake from the selection there, and take it to the in-store bakery to be topped with the printed design.

Choices of cake are plain sponge with vanilla buttercream and raspberry jam or chocolate sponge with chocolate buttercream – small size (rsp: £15) offers 22 servings and large (£19) can serve 40.

Big Day Cakes is a family business based in County Wicklow in Ireland. It was founded by brothers Colm and Hugh Nohilly, who developed and patented cake photo printing technology and continue to refine and improve their interface, app, and printers for retail and bakeries.
