Dorset-based business Leakers Bakery was among a number of winners at the Great Taste Awards 2016 for their local bread – the pure sourdough rye loaf.
The sourdough rye loaf beat off competition from 10,000 other products, judged by food critics, chefs and restaurateurs.
Speaking to Bridport news, Jemima Dasent from Leakers Bakery, said: “It is a truly local loaf. As with all our breads it’s handmade without additives or improvers. We are always delighted to have our products recognised in the Great Taste Awards and our bakery team can be very proud.”
The latest accolade is Leakers’ fifth Great Taste Award following the bakery’s success in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2015.
The business claimed that its breads, savouries, cakes, scones and pastries are handmade from scratch and baked on the premises in brick-floored ovens
Leakers will be sampling the award-winning sourdough rye loaf in-store over the coming days alongside other Great Taste Award-winning items from previous years, which included the business’ crusty country white, five seed malted sourdough loaves and both fruit and date and ginger scones.
In September 2009, Leaker’s Bakery triumphed at the Taste of Dorset competition, picking up the accolade for Best Artisan Baker.
