Frozen food distributor Central Foods has introduced the Katerbake medium-sized gluten-free ring doughnut range.

Available to the foodservice sector, the doughnuts, which are supplied frozen in packs of 36, were described by the firm as an “ideal, quick and easy base for caterers to use in their creations”.

Central Foods recommended serving ideas for the doughnuts, such as sprinkle decorations, threading on to straws for ‘freakshake’ milkshakes or slicing in half and filling with a scoop of ice cream.

The KaterBake medium-sized gluten-free ring doughnut is suitable for vegetarians, as well as coeliacs.

“We are delighted to have now introduced an updated version of the all-time classic, the ring doughnut, in a gluten-free format,” said Central Foods managing director Gordon Lauder.

“The KaterBake gluten-free ring doughnut, at approximately 33g compared to 56g for a standard ring doughnut, is not too big or too small.”

Central Foods has been working in partnership with Coeliac UK since 2009 to make free-from food more available for consumers.

Lauder said the company had seen a large increase in demand for sweet and savoury free-from products.

“The free-from market is really huge - it’s worth more than £627m a year and is set to reach £952m by 2021,” Lauder added.
