Warrens Bakery is making a move into the snack market after acquiring a local crisp firm.
The trade division of Warrens Bakery, Simply Cornish, has bought The Cornish Crisp Company to expand its product portfolio and tap into the ”rapidly growing” snack industry.
The company aims to grow the Cornish Crisp brand by building on its Cornish provenance.
Chairman of Warrens and Simply Cornish Mark Sullivan said: “The Cornish Crisp Company represents a unique opportunity for us. It is, importantly, a local product, which fits perfectly within our portfolio of high-quality, premium and distinguished brands.
“The national and international potential is huge as the snacks industry is rapidly growing.
“We have conducted a series of blind tastings over the past few months and The Cornish Crisp Company beat its main competitors across all flavours.”
The Cornish Crisp Company was founded just over five years ago in Callington, Cornwall.
Sue Wolstenholme, founder of The Cornish Crisp Company, said: “We know that under the guidance of Mark and the team at Simply Cornish, this much-loved and nurtured product will be taken to the next level.”
