Pieminister has launched a free-range British sausage pie into retailers following a music festival tour to drive awareness of the NPD.

“We’ve always known that a great way to launch a new pie is to give people the opportunity to fall for it when they’re having the time of their lives at a festival,” said Pieminister founder Jon Simon.

The Old Skool Banger (rsp £5/255g) contains free-range British Cumberland sausage with buttered baby onions, West Country cider, vintage Cheddar and a hint of fennel. It has launched into Waitrose and Ocado, followed by Tesco next month.

Pieminister restaurants will be serving The Banger Stack (£16), an Old Skool Banger pie with mash, smoky baked beans, Cheddar crumb, free range British pork scratchings, a honey & mustard cocktail sausage stick and gravy.

Stuffed Pizza Bagels, New York Bakery

Bagel brand New York Bakery is expanding into the frozen aisle for the first time with a range of Stuffed Pizza Bagels developed in partnership with food and drink brand licensing agency Food Brands Now.

Rolling out this month to 497 Tesco stores nationwide, the line-up comprises: Little Italy Margherita Pizza Bagel, Brooklyn Deli Ham & Mozzarella Pizza Bagel, and Manhattan Pepperoni Melt Pizza Bagel (rsp £3.50).

“Pizza bagels are a natural fit for the brand, bringing together two New York food favourites while taking our distinctive bagel taste and texture into a completely new occasion,” said Stephen Jones, sales director at New York Bakery owner Grupo Bimbo UK. “By moving into frozen, we can introduce New York Bakery to new meal and snacking occasions while continuing to innovate and drive excitement around the wider bagel category.”

Food Brands Now added that its aim had been to create a range that remained true to the brand’s New York heritage while delivering something innovative for the frozen aisle.

British Beef & Ale Pasty, Ginsters

Ginsters has rolled out a limited-edition Beef & Ale Pasty (rsp £2.25/180g) to Co-op stores ahead of wider distribution across the market.

The pasty combines 100% British beef, potatoes, onions and carrots with Cornish Ale in a beef gravy encased in puff pastry.

Ginsters pointed out that the business uses locally grown vegetables from Hay Farm in Cornwall, sourcing more than 16 tonnes of potatoes and four tonnes of onions.

And since announcing a long-term partnership with The Farming Community Network (FCN) charity in April, the business has enabled initiatives including more than 20 community events where farmers can come together and access support, while Ginsters staff have contributed more than 200 hours of volunteering time working with FCN at events.

“We know how hard farmers work, and the even tougher challenges they face after a long, hot summer, and we are committed to supporting the British farming industry through our long-term partnership with FCN,” said Ginsters marketing director Sarah Babb.

“Our new Beef & Ale pasty is no exception, using British beef and locally sourced veg that our British farmers work so hard to produce.”
