Artisan baker Dominique Ansel is opening a second store in London, in Covent Garden.
Ansel said he chose the central location after visiting on his first trip to the capital years ago, adding that he couldn’t wait to join the community of restaurants, the opera house and theatres.
The business’ existing London premises, on Elizabeth Street in Belgravia, seats 25 guests and also offers afternoon tea. Ansel also has stores in New York, Los Angeles and Tokyo.
In line with the new opening in spring 2019, Ansel will be releasing a fresh menu for the store that, like his other sites, will offer something unique.
He said: “We look at all of our stores uniquely, and it’s not just a variation of our existing menus but sometimes whole new creations and new menus altogether, so you can definitely expect the new shop and menu offerings to be different to our Belgravia shop.”
While the baker is yet to finalise the menu for the Covent Garden store, one item likely to feature is Dominique’s Kouign Amann, which has been on the menu since the first opening in New York in 2011.
Ansel said the item, which is described as ‘caramelized on the outside, flaky and tender layers within’, is the most popular at each of his stores across the world.
