As Easter approaches, bakers nationwide have begun rolling out egg-citing seasonal NPD.
Here, British Baker rounds up some of this year’s Easter options.
Carluccio’s is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this Easter with its Colomba Tradizionale (rsp: £8.95/300g or £14.95/750g). The dove-shaped cake contains sultanas and candied orange peel, is glazed with hazelnut and topped with sugar pieces and crunchy almonds.
Doughnut Time has unveiled a six-strong range of Easter-themed doughnuts. The line-up comprises:
- Reese Witherspoon, a chocolate doughnut filled with peanut butter and topped with a Reese’s Egg, orange and yellow cream drizzle, black sprinkletti and Reese’s peanut butter pieces
- Egg Sheeran, a yellow, purple or pink mini egg glazed doughnut filled with chocolate cheesecake and topped with a chocolate nest and Cadbury Mini Eggs
- It’s Always a Goo-time, a milk chocolate glazed doughnut with white sprinkles and a Cadbury Crème Egg on top
- Tease Me Baby, a chocolate glazed doughnut with Easter sprinkles and a whole Malteser bunny on top
- Marilyn Bunroe, a vegan hot cross bun glazed doughnut with sultanas
- Jason Bourneville, a vegan chocolate and caramel glazed doughnut topped with vegan brownie and Bourbon biscuits
Doughnuts are priced individually at £4.50, while an Easter four-pack box retails at £16.
Paul Rhodes Bakery
Paul Rhodes Bakery in London has launched a selection of seasonal bakes. The range includes Easter Bunny Cookies, available in Lemon, Chocolate and Speculaas variants; a Carrot Cake Log, decorated with hand-piped royal icing carrots; Hot Cross Buns; Lemon Cupcakes; and Simnel Cake Bites, which include brandy.
Biscuiteers’ range of Easter biscuits includes the Easter Party Luxe Biscuit Tin (rsp: £40); Easter Egg Biscuit Tin (rsp: £35); Easter Letterbox Biscuits (rsp: £20); and a selection of Beatrix Potter-themed biscuits, including the Peter Rabbit Letterbox Biscuit (rsp: £10.95), Beatrix Potter Biscuit Tin (rsp: £38) and the Beatrix Potter Gift Box (rsp: £70).
Aldi has launched limited-edition Bunny Crumpets (£0.85/four-pack). The discounter said the crumpets were the perfect addition to Easter morning breakfast, or a delicious snack.
Fondant & Apron Strings
County Durham bakery Fondant & Apron Strings has released two limited-edition products. These include the Lika, a gluten-free cake made with hazelnuts and dates, and the Madarica, a layered cake made with pastry and a rum chocolate custard, topped with a dark chocolate glaze.
Cutter & Squidge
Returning to Cutter & Squidge after proving a hit last year are Easter Egg Biskies (rsp: £12.90/four-pack), which are made up of two chocolate biskies decorated with sprinkles, filled with passionfruit buttercream and ganache and two little Easter eggs. Similarly, Easter Bunny Biskies comprise two vanilla biskies dipped in white chocolate and covered in desiccated coconut, filled with strawberry buttercream and strawberry jam. The bakery is also selling The Eggtastic Easter Cake (rsp: £42.50); a chocolate sponge layered with chocolate buttercream and packed with chocolate custard, chocolate biskie crumb and brownie chunks.
Hummingbird Bakery has released a range of cakes and cupcakes with Easter decorations. The cupcakes and mini cupcakes are topped with chocolate buttercream frosting, cream cheese frosting and yellow buttercream frosting and topped with fondant Easter bunnies, fondant carrots, sugar flowers and chocolate mini eggs. The sponges are a mixture of chocolate, vanilla and Red Velvet flavours. The cakes have a fondant Easter bunny design and Happy Easter messaging. New for this year, it has added The Easter Chocolate Salted Caramel Cake, which follows the same recipe as its Mile High Chocolate Salted Caramel Cake.
Sous Chef is offering a range of four Colomba cake: Luxury Pistachio & White Chocolate Colomba Gift Box (rsp £29.95), which comes with a jar of pistachio cream to spread on top; the Small Chocolate Colomba (rsp £11.95); Pear & Chocolate Colomba (rsp: £19.95); and the Candied Wild Berry & White Chocolate Colomba (rsp: 19.95).
Paul is selling two Easter cakes this season. The Easter Cake is made with thin layers of praline, chocolate sponge and ganache, covered in a layer of craquant and decorated with white chocolate, gold sparkles and a miniature iced chick; while the Easter Egg Carrot Cake, a seasonal twist on a carrot cake with spiced sponge, topped with cream cheese icing and a sprinkle of pecans.
