A baker from South Wales is celebrating after scooping several awards for his science-fiction inspired creations at Cake International.

Torfaen-based Paul Williams has been in the cake business for over 30 years and is managing director of Happy Occasions Cakes.

This month he wowed the judges at Cake International with his unique take on creatures from the 1979 classic Alien.

From the gold-medal winning 42-inch ‘face hugger’ and Alien sculptures, to a silver-winning piece recreating the film’s famous ‘chest burster’ scene, the custom cakes took three months to put together.

Talking about the win, Williams said the cakes nearly didn’t make it there: “When transporting the cakes to Birmingham the face hugger’s tail was sitting between the two front seats so I was a nervous wreck driving up there in case it was damaged.”
