A hand-crafted salted caramel cake, produced for the retail market by Shipley-based bakery Just Desserts, has sliced through the competition to win a coveted Taste Award.
The family-run bakery triumphed with the cake, it’s first retail product, in the Best Bakery category at this year’s Taste Awards, run in association with regional food group Deliciouslyorkshire and the Yorkshire Post newspaper.
Celebrating the finest local food and drink in the region, the awards attracted more than 340 product entries across 24 categories from 70 Yorkshire businesses.
The salted caramel cake combines dates, butter and sugar alongside notes of vanilla and mocha, finished with salted caramel.
Judged on appearance, taste and texture by an expert panel of foodies, chefs, journalists, category buyers, retailers, producers and food bloggers, the cake was applauded “for its appealing look and caramel spread on top, as well as its size, nice fudgy flavour and great combination and balance of flavours”.
Just Desserts’ Yorkshire Scallywags Posh Scone was also shortlisted in the bakery category.
James O’Dwyer, managing director of Just Desserts, said: “We are delighted to pick up an award for our salted caramel cake. The Deliciouslyorkshire accolade will certainly help us to market it to potential retail customers in the region. We are very proud of our bakery team in producing such a top quality cake.”
