London-based bakery Konditor & Cook will today (16 January) give away 5,000 Red Velvet Mini Bakes across its six stores to cheer up the public in what is regarded as the ‘most depressing day of the year’.

The cakes will be available to anyone visiting a Konditor & Cook branch, with no purchase necessary for as long as stocks last. They will also be delivered to staff working in businesses near Konditor & Cook stores.

The Red Velvet Mini Bake is a brand new product that Konditor & Cook has introduced to its range in January. The single-serve treat consists of a fluffy buttermilk and chocolate sponge topped with cream cheese and mascarpone vanilla frosting.

Gerhard Jenne, founder of Konditor & Cook, said that being part of as many joyful moments as possible was something that drove them continuously at the business.

“This year we’ve decided to give away our Red Velvet Mini Bakes - a new flavour for us, but one most cake connoisseurs will be familiar with,” he said.

“We think our Red Velvet more than lives up to the benchmark we set for ourselves and are looking forward to see if Londoners agree when they try it for themselves on Monday.”

The Red Velvet Mini Bakes will be available in Konditor & Cook’s stores in Waterloo, Gray’s Inn Road, Borough Market, Spitalfields Market, the Gherkin and on Goodge Street.
