The owners of coffee bar Flat White are to discontinue its Milkbar concept.

The closure comes as they plan to expand the Flat White brand with a second outlet on Denmark Street, London.

Commenting on the closure, Tracey Petersen, owner, said that the location for Milkbar, the “little sister” of Flat White in Soho, wasn’t the “right spot for them”.

She said: “It has been a nice home for it, but it’s not the right spot for Flat White. We want to extend our hours and pitch at the front of the shop, taking Flat White to another level. Milkbar has always been the little sister to Flat White, and has always been different.”

Petersen added that they were looking into acquiring a liquor licence for the outlet, and that they had had a lot of interest in Milkbar. Three potential buyers are said to be involved in the sale.

The name and concept is thought to remain the same, though this could change with new owners.

Having opened in 2008, there are currently seven staff at Flat White, which sells Australian- and New Zealand-styled artisan coffee. The house’s own Square Mile single origin blend is also available.
