Grupo Bimbo-owned New York Bakery Co is launching two gluten-free bagels for foodservice.

The Rotherham-based business has rolled out New York-style bagels in Plain and Seeded with sesame, brown linseed and poppy.

The bagels are available from frozen and individually wrapped with 24 per case.

“Gluten-free is still one of the fastest-growing trends, increasing by over 140% in the last five years. Whether it’s a dietary need or dietary choice, eating gluten-free shouldn’t mean consumers have to compromise on quality or taste,” said Becky Allan, out-of-home marketing manager at New York Bakery Co.

“That’s why we’ve developed a gluten-free bagel that replicates the brand’s authentic flavour and chew, allowing operators to enhance consumer experience.”

The offering is set to help operators compile an authentic product list, said the company. It is designed for a free-from market that grew by 27% year-on-year in 2018, according to market researcher MCA Insight.

“The recipes are inspired by New York’s delis and have been trialled with coeliacs and gluten-free lifestylers to ensure they deliver on flavour and texture – giving us every confidence that they will perform well in a category that continues to go from strength to strength,” Allan added.

Available from Bidfood, both gluten-free bagels are vegan- and vegetarian-friendly.

Grupo Bimbo has this month announced a major push into the UK market with is Sanissimo brand.
