Gluten-free products are increasingly popular, according to a leading shopping and comparison site.
mySupermarket.co.uk has found that10% of consumers’ weekly shop in November was made up of gluten-free items, compared to 9% in November 2013.
There was also a 1.5% increase in the number of shoppers buying gluten-free products, up to 12.4%.
The website listed Genius gluten-free triple-seeded sandwich loaf, Doves Farms gluten-free plain white flour and Eat Natural gluten-free bars as being some of the most popular items purchased.
Kim Ludlow, managing director of mySupermarket, commented: “We are seeing a clear trend in the rise of gluten-free products with a tenth of shopper baskets now containing items with no gluten. This rise is due to both an increased number of people diagnosed with a gluten intolerance, as well as people choosing gluten-free products as part of a healthy diet.”
The data collected was based on a panel of 50,000 shoppers on average each month.
