Belfast-based Ormo Bakery, which is part of Hovis, has teamed up with two other Northern Irish brands to develop new products.
The bakery has collaborated with prepared vegetable supplier Mash Direct to create Original Potato Farls and Champ Potato Farls. Mash Direct provides the mash potato and champ – an Irish dish combining mashed potatoes, butter, milk and cheese – for the products, which gives them a smooth and creamy taste, according to Ormo.
In addition, Ballyrashane Buttermilk from Coleraine in Co Derry is providing the buttermilk for Ormo’s new Buttermilk Wheaten Bread. The loaf is topped with sweetened, roasted oats.
“Ormo has enjoyed significant annual growth over the past two years in value and volume performance in Northern Ireland,” said Trevor McCrum, commercial director of Hovis Ireland, which licenses the Ormo brand. “Brand growth has been driven by continuous product improvements to our core range, including pancakes and soda farls.
“Our new product development team has created three outstanding products each giving a unique and distinctive taste that we hope our customers will enjoy.”
The products will be supported by an “extensive launch programme” which includes a Northern Ireland-wide outdoor campaign, in-store activity and sampling.
