Papa John’s has launched a hot dog pizza that swaps the brand’s usual Californian tomato base for Heinz Tomato Ketchup in what it claims is a world first.
The limited-edition pizza comprises a Heinz Tomato Ketchup base, topped with mozzarella, smoky Frankfurt sausages, white onions and Heinz yellow mustard.
Papa John’s said the NPD was not only a nod to “the nation’s favourite condiment” but recognised the “winning flavour combinations of a classic hot dog”.
Following the roll-out of the pizza chain’s vegan menu earlier this year, the Hot Dog pizza will also be available as a vegan option, including a vegan meat substitute. Papa John’s claimed this would mark the first time that a UK national pizza delivery chain had introduced a vegan meat substitute.
“We’re excited to launch our latest partnership with one of the nation’s best-loved brands and use its iconic Heinz tomato ketchup as the base of our newest pizza,” said Giles Codd, UK marketing director at Papa John’s.
“Ingredient innovation is at the heart of our menu and we have worked hard to ensure the ‘The Hot Dog’ is the perfect combination of each flavour. We’re confident pizza lovers and hot dog fans will be woofing it down in not time.”
