Former Price & Sons baker Peter Cook has established his own bread business in Ledbury, Herefordshire.

Having taken a year’s lease, Peter Cook’s Bread will launch at the end of February with a 600 square foot wholesale unit at the Hop Pocket Shopping Village, Worcester.

Speaking to British Baker, Cook said he was also looking to set up a pop-up shop on Ledbury’s high street in the near future, and will supply wholesale to restaurants, pubs and cafés.

He said the business will not produce an extensive range, instead focusing on five or six breads, mostly sourdough or long fermentation breads.

“I’ve never started my own business before, but to set up your own thing from scratch is very exciting,” Cook said.

Cook left Price & Sons at the end of 2013 due to personal reasons.

In September last year, the bakery was awarded Best Speciality Loaf with its seeded sourdough at the Baking Industry Awards

Cook added that he will be working with a business partner, whom he currently cannot name, but said that she is a “very keen home baker” and has been on courses and workshops.

By summer, he said, he will be looking to take on another staff member.
