Poundland, the self-described ‘home of amazing value’, has unveiled new sandwiches and wraps as part of its £3 meal deal offering.
The discounter listed almost 60 new bakery items and salads as mains options for the ‘unbeatable’ priced food-to-go combo, launched under the new brand name Grab A Bite. Even though a loyalty card is not required, it is still cheaper than the likes of the £3.40 meal deal for Tesco Clubcard members.
Tesco recently added its own new sandwiches and wraps for the summer 2024 season, with Waitrose doing the same for its meal deal priced at £5, and Co-op adding to its £5.50 premium meal deal.
The newly introduced wraps at Poundland are mainly filled with chicken in varieties of Tikka, Honey Dijon, Southern Fried, Caesar, and Cajun. There’s also a Falafel wrap for vegetarians and vegans.
The sandwiches follow predominantly traditional British flavours such as Cheese & Pickle, Prawn Mayo, Tuna Salad, Chicken & Stuffing, Ham Lettuce Club, and Egg Mayo. A few subs are available too with fillings like Chicken & Bacon, Tuna & Cucumber, and Ham & Cheese.
Poundland admitted it isn’t always the first place office workers would consider for their lunch date, while noting that the new sandwiches and wraps are made by ‘high quality companies that already supply other multiple retailers such as M&S’.
“Our mission here at Poundland has always been to provide our customers with the best possible value, without compromising on taste or quality,” said Kyle Storey, head of chilled and frozen at Poundland.
“With our new meal deal, we’re not only offering an unbeatable price, but also ensuring that everyone can access a delicious and satisfying meal without the need for a plastic loyalty card.”
Accompanying the mains are over 160 options for sides including crisps, chocolate bars, and sweets. Some bakery choices are available as sides such as slices, pasties and sausage rolls from Ginsters and Snacksters, or muffins and brownies from Brompton House and Lindahls. A total of 199 drinks complete the offer.
To help market the meal deal launch, Poundland is putting up Blue Plaques outside 20 of its best-performing lunchtime stores including in Deal (Kent), Glasgow, Edinburgh, Cardiff, Birmingham, Birmingham, Leeds, Liverpool, Walsall, and Wembley (London).
Since opening its first shop in Burton-upon-Trent in 1990, Poundland has grown to operate a chain of over 800 stores in the UK and Ireland. It is part of the Pepco Group, which has over 4,800 stores in 21 territories across Europe.
