The recall of four products due to the possibility of salmonella presence has been linked to one Dutch supplier.

The Food Standards Agency confirmed that one single unnamed supplier had been linked to the recalls, and it was cooperating with European authorities.

Last week, Tesco recalled its ‘Tesco Free From 5 Belgium Chocolate Wafers’ due to the possible presence of salmonella.

A spokesperson said: “The Food Standards Agency is working together with all those involved, including the European Commission, the Dutch authorities, enforcement authorities and food businesses to investigate traceability issues and make sure the potentially affected products are recalled from sale so consumers are protected.

“The Food Standards Agency continues to monitor this recall and will take any further actions if required.”

This week, a further three gluten-free chocolate wafer products have been recalled from different manufacturers. The products are Kelkin Milk Chocolate Wafers ‘free from’ Gluten, Bakers Delight ‘free from’ Enjoy Gluten Free Wafer Fingers and Atkins Endulge Chocolate Break Wafers.

All manufacturers recalled the wafers “on a precautionary basis”. Valeo Foods’ Kelkin wafers are only sold in Sainsbury’s stores in the UK, Baker’s Delight supply Waitrose, and Atkins International supplies Tesco – all retailers have displayed point-of-sale recall notices in stores.

Salmonella is a bacterium that can cause food poisoning.
