Scotland’s Scotty Brand has gained a £150,000 listing with Asda to stock two cake lines in Scottish stores, with both lines handmade by Motherwell’s Kerrs Bakery.
The new Scottish Fancies - a twist on the French Fancy - and High Tea Favourites will be stocked in 57 and 42 Scottish stores respectfully.
The cakes fill a market gap and cater for a growing desire amongst Scots for light, handcrafted Scottish cakes perfect for an afternoon snack or for entertaining, according to Scotty Brand.
June Rose, buying assistant for Asda Scotland, commented: “Our prosperous relationships with suppliers, and Scotty Brand in particular, allow us to deliver authentic, great-tasting Scottish products direct to shelves for customers to enjoy, on a continuing basis.”
Scotty Brand already supplies a range of 28 products to Asda, with the focus on fresh produce such as potatoes, lettuce, raspberries and smoked salmon. This is its first foray into bakery via its new partner Kerrs.
Combining sponge cake, sweet cream fondant and smooth white icing, the Scottish Fancies are now available for £2.
For £3, the multipack Scottish High Tea Favourites includes two Scottish Fancies, two Jammy Raspberry and Coconut Squares and two zesty Lemon Iced Sponges.
Kerrs Bakery, founded in 1998, is one of six local bakeries owned by Glasgow-based McGhee’s Family Bakers.
