A Plymouth bakery has signed a new wholesale contract with catering suppliers Chadd’s Foodsmiths, allowing it to grow the business.
The Column Bakehouse, situated in Devonport Guildhall, Plymouth, is set to now supply restaurants, bars and cafés across the city.
The bakery refitted its commercial kitchen last year, using an £80,000 loan from Plymouth City Council’s Social Enterprise Investment Fund.
Claire Burgess, commercial manager for Column Bakehouse, said: “We have built a loyal following from our Guildhall base, but to really grow our business in line with our ambitions we need to maximise wholesale as well as retail opportunities.
“This new partnership with Chadd’s Foodsmiths will support our plans for growth, enabling us to get into the supply chain of some of the city’s best eateries and have our award-winning product enjoyed by even more people.
“We’re delighted to be entering into this new wholesale arrangement with Chadd’s Foodsmiths and look forward to seeing the relationship prove profitable.”
Nigel Chadd, managing director of Chadd’s Foodsmiths, said: “We’re thrilled to be working with Column Bakehouse and enormously privileged to be their chosen wholesaler.
“To help grow a local business is a tremendous achievement and one that we won’t take lightly. Column Bakehouse’s handmade artisan breads are second to none and we’re very excited to distribute their products to more consumers throughout our trading area of Devon and Cornwall.”
