The Foodamentalists has won best free-from innovative brand of the year in Foods You Can’s Free-From People’s Choice Awards 2013.

The gluten and wheat-free bakery was founded in 2008 by trained chef Stevan Taylor. From the bakery shop in Wheelock Street, Middlewich, Taylor sells a variety of freshly baked gluten free cakes, pastries, puddings, pies, quiches and bread.

Commenting on the award, he said: “It’s incredibly satisfying to know that our customers appreciate what we do enough to vote for us in these awards.

“We have developed our range of gluten-, wheat-, soya- and dairy-free baked goods to prevent people with restricted diets having to go without the foods they love.

“This year alone we have added two new products to our baking mixes line: a doughnut mix and a crumpet mix. Our doughnut mix alone is creating quite a stir in the gluten-free community.”

Best brand for free-from bread was won by Genius Gluten Free, followed by Newburn Bakehouse, with Sainsbury’s Own Brand in third. Mrs Crimbles won best brand for free-from cakes, muffins and cupcakes, with Sainsbury’s free-from in second place and Newburn Bakehouse in third.

Nakd was awarded first place in the free-from snack bar category, and Moo Free Chocolates beat Nairns and Tesco free-from in the sweets, chocolates and biscuits category.

Best brand for food-on-the-go was claimed by Marks & Spencer, beating Costa Coffee and Starbucks.

Bunmi Scott, founder of Foods You Can, said: “The best free-from innovative brand category invited suggestions from consumers on whom they felt had gone further than any other brand to bring out original free-from products.

“The Foodamentalists received a staggering number of votes, pretty impressive for a small independent business.”
