Morrisons has jumped on the unicorn bandwagon with the roll out of two new celebration cakes.
Available in stores now, the Unicorn Madeira Cake features a sponge cake filled with raspberry jam covered in soft icing and finished with edible decorations including a unicorn horn, ears and mane. The cake serves 20 and has an rsp of £10.
A Rainbow Drip Madeira Cake, which serves 18, will join the unicorn one on shelves. It is comprised of a madeira cake filled with three layers of raspberry jam covered in multi-coloured frosting and finished with a white chocolate flavoured drip.
Both cakes tap into the brightly-coloured rainbow and unicorn themes that have been gaining traction on social media, and in bakeries, for the past year. However, it is only recently making gains in the grocery bakery aisles. Asda rolled out its unicorn cake in October, and both Tesco and Sainsbury’s also sell their own own-label versions.
And last week, Premier Foods unveiled Mr Kipling Unicorn Slices which incorporate two types of pink batter, yellow mallow and purple icing.
