The Albex group has launched its new Crumbs & Miller website, offering a wide range of bakery options for foodservice operators.
The food manufacturing business said its new e-commerce platform, which falls under the umbrella of its wholesale bakery ingredients supplier BFP, is “set to revolutionise the way the hospitality sector acquires premium frozen baked goods”. Among the customers targetted on the website are cafés, bakeries, hotels, restaurants, garden centres, farm shops, and event caterers.
Products are sourced from brands such as Casa Cannoli and Traiteur de Paris alongside offerings from select manufacturers, ensuring only the best reaches its clientele, added the company. These range from artisan breads, pies, savoury slices, and breakfast items, to sweet pastries, doughnuts, muffins, biscuits, cakes, and desserts.
“With an elegant user interface and streamlined ordering process, customers can expect a seamless experience that reflects the sophistication of the products offered,” noted Albex.
Initially, Crumbs & Miller will serve a pilot area within a radius of its Lewes depot in East Sussex, where its Henley Bridge business is also located. However, with Albex’s extensive network of depots across the UK, plans are in place for a nationwide rollout. The strategic expansion is aimed at mirroring the success of BFP, which Albex claims has re-established itself as a leader in the bakery sector throughout the country.
Albex also operates warehouses in Basildon, Bristol, Daventry (including head office for Kent Foodservice), Leeds (BFP head office), Stockton (Tom Walker & Sons head office), and Newbridge in Scotland, as well as a site in Preston which came with the acquisition of cake decoration brand Rainbow Dust in November 2023.
The manufacturer houses its main head office in Paisley, Scotland, and also has a site in Oosterhout in the Netherlands and an office in San Gwann in Malta for parts of its Kent Foods business. In its most recent financial results filed on Companies House for the year ended 31 December 2023, the Albex group reported turnover of £412m, up 38.7% from the year prior. EBITDA jumped from £6.7m in 2022 to £16.7m as a result of the large increase in revenue and operating profit.
A year on from the acquisition, Rainbow Dust management discussed with British Baker how the new ownership has transformed the struggling brand. It also recently purchased Squires Kitchen in a move that combines complimentary ranges of cake decoration products.
