Plymouth-based artisan bakery The Column Bakehouse has announced it is opening a second branch, inside Ocean Studios at the Royal William Yard.
Run by social enterprise the Real Ideas Organisation (RIO), The Column Bakehouse will open a café in June and store in July.
The bakery, which supplies restaurants and trade customers, started trading in 2013 at Devonport Guildhall.
Claire Burgess, head of enterprise at RIO, said the business had been looking at options for a second outlet for some time following its successful growth in retail and wholesale bakery.
“We’re incredibly excited to be bringing Column Bakehouse to Ocean Studios. The café will bring more of the great, fresh food that customers have been enjoying at our café in Devonport, with a helping of our handcrafted artisan bread, with eat-in and takeaway options available,” Burgess said.
“The Bakehouse Stores will stock the staples that visitors and residents on the yard might need, all of which are either locally sourced – including our artisan bread – or from social enterprise suppliers.”
The Column Bakehouse invested £80,000 in October 2014 to improve its infrastructure and increase production by at least 50%.
