Cake and desserts supplier Almondy has recalled a batch of a cake sold in Ikea after a metal object was found in the product.
Almondy said it was taking the incident “very seriously” and was recalling the batch as a precautionary measure.
The recalled product is the 400g Almondy Almond cake with Daim sold in Ikea stores with batch code L2140, and a best before date of 18 November 2023.
The supplier is urging consumers who may have purchased the product to either return it to the store where it was bought for a full refund, or to contact Almondy.
“At Almondy the quality and safety of our products is our number one priority,” said Almondy quality director Margareta Johannesson. “We take the incident very seriously and as a precautionary measure we are therefore recalling products purchased at Ikea stores, with the batch code stated.”
She added that Almondy had identified measures to take to prevent this from happening again.
Swedish business Almondy produces around 80,000 cakes a day from its site in Torslanda, Gothenburg and supplies them to more that 50 countries.
