Portadown-based Irwin’s Bakery has come to an agreement with workers over rates of pay.
Employees will receive a 2.4% increase across all rates of pay as well as an additional day’s holiday to be taken before 31 July 2019. Back pay will be payable from 1 August 2018.
Previously, members of the Bakers Food and Allied Workers Union (BFAWU) had voted to take industrial action over rates of pay and changes to the company’s sick pay scheme.
Following further discussions, the strike was postponed on 26 September to allow the union to ballot workers on the updated offer. The industrial action will no longer take place.
“Following a recent suspension of planned Industrial action in the form of strike action with our members in Irwin’s Bakery, we have successfully reached a resolution to the 2018-2019 pay dispute and will no longer be progressing to industrial action,” said Laura Graham, Northern Ireland regional officer for BFAWU.
“We would like to thank all of our members at this site for the support they have given the union and also thank the union representatives for their hard work during this time.”
