2 Sisters Food Group has created a new cakes division following its recent bakery acquisitions.
The firm, has appointed Veepul Patel to the new role of divisional director cakes, following his involvement in the acquisition of the RF Brookes and Avana Bakeries businesses from Premier Foods earlier this year.
A spokesperson for 2 Sisters, said the new role has been created to ensure the firm has a clear focus on cakes, puddings and desserts a new area for the business since the Brookes Avana acquisition.
The new division will be made up of the non-chilled ready meals part of the Brookes Avana business. This includes the Avana Bakeries site in South Wales (which produces desserts, cakes and puddings) and also the Leicester site (which manufacturers pizza and pies). The chilled ready meals part of Brookes Avana will move into a new chilled division.
Patel’s appointment is one of a number announced by the Group, as it looks to "strengthen its talent base to support its growth over the coming years". The firm is looking to target £3bn sales by 2015, across the Group.
In March 2012, British Baker reported that Boparan Holdings, the food conglomerate behind 2 Sisters, had offered to sell one of its Christmas pudding businesses - either its Avana production site in Newport or the Matthew Walker facility in Heanor, Derbyshire - in a bid to overcome competition concerns from the Office of Fair Trading (OFT).
2 Sister’s spokesperson said it was still reviewing its options with regards to the OFT’s recommendation.
