Bulk food transport service provider Abbey Logistics Group has appointed David Batty to lead its engineering department.

Batty, formerly chairman of British Transport Advisory Consortium, will manage the expanding fleet of liquid and powder tankers, trucks and distribution trailers, and take responsibility for Abbey’s maintenance depots across the nation.

He joins the business after more than 40 years of industry experience.

Abbey Logistics Group chief executive Steve Granite said: “David possesses a unique mix of skills and experience that strengthens our commitment to engineering excellence.

“His knowledge will ensure engineering supports the overall group strategy to drive efficiency in every area and provide our customers with the certainty that they are receiving the very highest engineering standards in the industry.”

Batty will oversee all new vehicle specification to ensure Abbey provides the most appropriate equipment for each of its customers, said the company.

In September, Abbey made two appointments to its senior team, with Andrew Palmer joining as executive director and Michael Fox becoming group marketing manager.
