Ingredients supplier Edme has appointed a new sales manager with experience of the fast-growing gluten-free market.
Ashley Clinton is joining the business from Sukrin UK, the UK arm of Norwegian manufacturer Funksjonell Mat, where he was head of sales. Sukrin produces natural, low-sugar, low-carb, gluten-free mixes and ingredients.
His appointment comes as interest continues to grow in gluten-free products, with Kantar Worldpanel stating gluten-free accounts for 60% of the free-from market, which was valued at £440m last year.
“Ashley’s experience with retailers and consumer brands will be a great asset,” said Mike Carr, sales director at Edme, which two years ago installed a new gluten-free mill.
Edme supplies a range of products including flours, flakes and mixes produced from pulses such as fava bean, lentil and chickpea; seeds including linseed, chia and pumpkin; and cereals including maize, sorghum and buckwheat.
“The trick for bakers and other food manufacturers is to understand how to use them to best effect,” said Clinton. “We can help with that.”
“Bakers and food manufacturers can just buy from us, but they can also tap into our resources. Our teams have massive insight into raw materials, know about applications and can help with anything from product development to idea pitching.”
