Addo Food Group has partnered with food redistribution charity FareShare to fight hunger and food waste by donating products to those in need.
FareShare distributes unpurchased food that would otherwise go to waste to frontline charities and community groups that support vulnerable people.
The charity intercepts food from businesses such as Addo Food Group that is still in date, but due to factors such as incorrect labelling or overstock, will no longer be able to reach its intended destination.
Kim Burgess, head of markets at Addo Food Group, said she was delighted to be working with FareShare and partnering with them on an incredibly worthwhile initiative.
“As one of the UK’s largest food manufacturers we believe it’s important to be supporting local communities and good causes where possible,” she said.
“The partnership has got off to a great start but we’re looking forward to moving ahead with it and hopefully encouraging other businesses to do the same.”
Addo and FareShare have been working together through its Riverside Bakery site since April 2016.
Last year, FareShare supported over 5,000 charities and community groups by supplying enough food for 26 million meals, saving 12,336 tonnes of food from being wasted.
