A bakery manager at Asda has been promoted after his team won the In-store Bakery of the Year category at the 2007 Baking Industry Awards (BIA).

Chris Spoors from Asda in Boldon, South Tyneside, is now the fresh food team leader responsible for bakery, produce, meat, fish and dairy. These areas represent 35% of the store’s £30m a year turnover.

"I was delighted to be chosen for the role and was very proud of my team for winning," said Spoors, whose new job is based at the nearby Benton store.

The BIA was given to two managers, Chris Spoors (pictured) and Ed Turnbull, along with their 45 staff.
