Wenzel’s plans London-wide expansion: 11/2/2013

Family run retail bakery business Wenzel’s the Bakers exclusively revealed to British Baker that it would be operating at least 60 shops in the next two years.

Chief executive Peter Wenzel said the company would be targeting locations south and in the centre of the capital, extending the estate’s footprint beyond its current north-west London base.

Privately-owned Candy Cakes has signed an international franchising deal with The Landmark Group, which will see 14 outlets opening in the United Arab Emirates in the next 12 months.

The firm operates five UK sites in London, including a concession outlet in toy store Hamley’s.

Konditor & Cook to trial pop-up cake shops: 14/2/2013

Konditor & Cook is looking to open up to three temporary pop-up sites this year to trial a new dedicated cake shop format.

Revealing the news to British Baker, MD Paul Cons said the London-based firm would be looking to open the first site by the summer and would look to target its shops at new locations in the capital, including sites around mainline railway stations.

Paul’s Pies double sales in four weeks: 15/2/2013

Oxon-based pie manufacturer Paul’s Pies has doubled its sales in the last four weeks of supplying its products to Budgens, British Baker can reveal.

Founder Paul Sykes said since the company launched in April 2011, daily pie production has increased from 28 to 500 units.
