East Lancashire bakery Clayton Park has officially opened its new factory in Huncoat, following a multi-million-pound investment.
The expansion of the bakery, which has resulted in the addition of 30 new jobs, comprises a newly converted food production unit, which will be used for bread cakes and other morning goods.
Pie production will continue to take place at the firm’s existing headquarters at Clayton-le-Moors, near Accrington.
Barry Thomas, managing director, said: “We were getting too big for one site and to meet the future potential of the business. Sales have been growing considerably and we have confidence in the business that it will grow further to take up the extra capacity.
“Expanding into a second unit will allow us to increase that capacity and also widen our range of products, as well as increasing production in the existing factory.”
The seven-figure investment in the new unit, on the New House Road industrial estate at Huncoat, includes the installation of new ovens, a bread plant, a morning goods plant and a wrapping line.
Clayton Park is the official pie supplier to a number of major football clubs, including Blackburn Rovers, Liverpool, Everton, Preston North End and Accrington Stanley. It has also recently secured a contract to supply bread products to Newcastle United.
