The new book by celebrated cake-maker Mich Turner, of Little Venice Cake Company, covers everything from "luxurious baroque designs" to "minimalist creations". It is written with the budding wedding cake-maker in mind and aims to be a source of inspiration, as well as offering step-by-step instructions on how to create a variety of different cakes.

It is divided into eight sections, five of which are different cake themes - Glamourous, Country Rose, Creative, Fun and Funky and Seasonal. The other sections focus on different ways to present the cakes, wedding day mementoes such as favours, and mini-cakes, as well as decoration techniques, recipes and templates.

Turner’s love of all things fashion, on discovering the delights of Chanel a few years back, has led to couture becoming a source of inspiration for her designs. Don’t worry, though, there aren’t wedding cakes based on a bottle of Chanel No 5 in here.

Confectioners will not fail to be inspired by the originality of design and use of colours and techniques, which Turner explains are not as difficult as you might think.

There are full-page colour photos of the finished designs, as well as a number of photos to accompany the step-by-step instructions. Whether brides want a cake covered in roses, polkadots or chocolate fans, this book has got it covered.
