Broadway Bagels of Dungarvan, Co Waterford, has won its first export deal to mainland Europe, for its frozen, pre-sliced bagels.
These are to be distributed in Spain by Taste of America and by Fricodan distributors, which supplies the Dinosol supermarket chain. The first consignment, of 10,000 bagels, is being shipped very shortly.
Rosie Sheehan, who runs the firm with her husband, Des, said the Spanish deal was open-ended and, as yet, they didn’t know how the quantities were going to build. "This is an entirely new concept for us, but we’re keen to continue developing our exports," she said. The first export batch for Spain is equivalent to just under half a day’s production at the Dungarvan bakery.
The firm, set up in 2002, also produces fresh and frozen bagels for the Irish market and distributes in the UK via Blakemore.
