Pidy is hoping to tap rising interest in organic food with the launch of organic shortcrust party tarts for the foodservice market.
The NPD follows increased demand for organic produce that, according to the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra), has resulted in 2% growth in the amount of land being farmed organically. Defra stated this was the first such increase in years.
Pidy said consumers were demanding more information on provenance and sourcing of ingredients, and claimed featuring organic ingredients on a menu would resonate with a wide demographic, particularly millennials.
This has prompted the business to launch the organic all-butter shortcrust pastry tart, which is available in two sizes, 8.5cm and 22cm.
“Extending our range to include the new organic pastry case is part of our vision to produce pastry for every customer’s need,” said Fabien Levet, national account manager for foodservice at Pidy UK.
“The use of organic ingredients adds value to a menu and helps to position an outlet as a user of quality ingredients and have greater appeal to consumers who command a more premium product.
“Customers enjoy knowing exactly where their food comes from and it also provides a unique selling point.”
