Tesco has jumped on the flamingo bandwagon with a new addition to its celebration cake range.
The Pink Flamingo Cake, priced at £12, serves up to 18 people and is comprised of a pink sponge cake layered with strawberry jam, covered with cream-flavoured frosting. Pink meringues as well as white chocolate shavings and pink sprinkles sit on top, while a white chocolate flavoured collar with flamingos printed on it surrounds the outside.
It comes just a couple of months after Asda unveiled a Flamingo Cake, priced at £11, and Flamingo Cupcakes, £4.50 for a nine-pack, as part of its spring/summer range. Asda’s celebration cake features a Victoria sponge with ombre pink and blue icing with a pair of flamingos on top.
Marks & Spencer also sells a cake with the pink bird on top, although the two-tiered tropical creation is priced at £40 and is only available to order through its website.
While demand for unicorn-themed baked treats continues to grow, flamingos and other creatures are gaining traction when it comes to celebration cakes. Subscribers to British Baker magazine can find out more about upcoming cake trends via our latest feature.
