Ginsters is adding a new deep-fill “less than 350 calories” Chicken Tikka sandwich to its healthier-eating sandwich range.

The sandwich is the first in a range of extensions planned for 2006, marketing controller Larry File told British Baker. Ginsters will introduce new savoury slices, including Ham and Cheese and Spicy Chicken, in late April, and is planning further sandwiches and savouries.

The new £2.69 sandwich is designed to fill a gap in the market for full-flavour low calorie lunchtime food. “Low-calorie sandwiches tend to be a bit bland and unsatisfying,” said Mr File. “Our development chefs have been concentrating on removing these consumer issues.”

Ginsters is to run a £6.5 million TV and radio advertising campaign in the summer, he added.
